About Stacy Brumage, LPC
I'm Stacy Brumage, LPC, a trauma and EMDR therapist based in West Chester, Pennsylvania and also licensed in Maryland and Delaware. I work with adults who are navigating trauma, betrayal, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, and the patterns that sometimes keep us feeling stuck.
My approach is compassionate and supportive, but also active and engaged. I won't simply sit back and listen while you try to figure everything out on your own. We'll work together to understand what is happening, identify what may be keeping you stuck, and find ways to create meaningful change.
My Approach to Therapy
I believe therapy should be individualized.
There isn't one technique that works for every person, and there isn't one "right" way to heal. Some clients need space to talk and make sense of their experiences. Others are ready to work more directly with trauma, emotional triggers, or long-standing patterns.
Depending on your needs, our work may include traditional talk therapy, EMDR, trauma-focused approaches, attachment work, or nature-informed and walk-and-talk therapy.
At times, therapy may involve looking back at experiences that shaped you. At other times, the focus may be very much on the present: your relationships, boundaries, decisions, emotions, or the life you want to create next.
The goal isn't simply to understand your past. It's to help your past have less control over your present.
Areas I Specialize In
Over the years, my practice has become particularly focused on several areas:
Trauma & EMDR Therapy: Past experiences can continue to show up in ways we don't always recognize—in relationships, anxiety, emotional reactions, avoidance, self-doubt, or feeling constantly on alert. EMDR and trauma-focused therapy can help you process experiences that continue to feel unresolved.
Betrayal Trauma & Infidelity: Discovering an affair, sexual behavior, secrecy, or ongoing deception can profoundly disrupt your sense of safety and reality. I work extensively with betrayed partners as they navigate the shock of discovery, questions about what happened, rebuilding trust in themselves, and decisions about what comes next.
Relationships & Life Transitions: Not everyone comes to therapy because of a single traumatic event. You may simply feel stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or aware that something in your life needs to change. Therapy can provide space to understand those patterns and begin creating something different.
Nature-Informed Therapy: For clients who feel more comfortable moving than sitting across from someone in an office, I also offer nature-informed and walk-and-talk therapy. Being outdoors can create a different therapeutic experience and can be particularly helpful for people who feel grounded and restored in nature.
Experience & Specialized Training
I have been providing therapy since 2006 and have spent much of my career developing specialized expertise in trauma, addiction, relationships, and betrayal.
Early in my career, I worked in the addiction treatment field, which gave me a deeper understanding of compulsive behaviors, recovery, shame, and the impact addiction can have on both individuals and families.
I later completed EMDR training and began incorporating EMDR into my work with trauma and unresolved experiences.
I also completed extensive training as a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT), including training with Dr. Patrick Carnes. That experience became an important foundation for my work with problematic sexual behaviors, infidelity, and particularly the partners affected by betrayal.
Over time, my work has increasingly focused on understanding trauma—not only what happens to us, but how those experiences continue to shape our nervous system, relationships, beliefs, and sense of self.
Today, I bring those areas together to help clients understand where they've been while also focusing on where they want to go.
What You Can Expect From Me
I know that finding the right therapist can feel surprisingly difficult.
You want someone who understands what you're going through, but you also want someone you can actually talk to.
My style is warm, conversational, and engaged. I value honesty, curiosity, compassion, and sometimes humor when it naturally belongs in the room. I want therapy to feel human.
You don't have to arrive knowing exactly what you need or having the perfect words to explain what's happening.
We can start there together.
You Don't Have to Have Everything Figured Out Before You Begin
People often wait to start therapy because they aren't sure their problem is "big enough," they don't know exactly what they want to work on, or they aren't sure how to explain what they're experiencing.
You don't need to have all of that figured out.
Maybe something happened that changed everything.
Maybe you've been carrying something for years.
Or maybe you simply know that the way you're living right now isn't how you want to keep living.
That's enough of a place to begin.
